Hospital bed cost & coverage: does insurance pay?
Rent vs. buy, what Medicare covers, and your cost.
Does Medicare cover a hospital bed?
Yes — Medicare Part B covers a home hospital bed when it's medically necessary: when you need positioning a regular bed can't provide (for example, to elevate the head for a heart or breathing condition, to reduce pain or swelling, or for repositioning to protect the skin), with your provider's order.
Rent or buy?
Medicare usually rents home hospital beds as a capped rental rather than buying them outright — so you're not paying the full price up front. We handle the rental billing for you.
Semi-electric, full-electric, or bariatric?
A semi-electric bed (powered head and foot, manual height) is the common covered option. A full-electric bed (powered height too) needs extra documentation. Bariatric beds support higher weight capacities. If skin or pressure is a concern, we'll talk through a pressure-relief mattress as well.
What will it cost me?
For covered rentals, Medicare pays 80% and you owe 20%; a secondary plan usually covers that 20%. Buying privately, the price depends on the bed type — we'll give you a clear quote.
