The amount you pay out of pocket before Medicare or your plan starts paying its share. Medicare Part B has an annual deductible that resets each year.
After the deductible, Medicare Part B typically pays 80% of the approved amount and you're responsible for the remaining 20% — your coinsurance. Commercial plans sometimes use a flat co-pay instead.
If you have a secondary or supplemental (Medigap) plan, we bill it for that 20% — which often leaves little to nothing out of pocket.
