Home Safety Checklist

A quick room-by-room walk-through to lower fall risk at home.

Check each item. Anything unchecked is a chance to make the home safer — ask us about equipment that helps.

Entry & hallways

  • Clear, well-lit pathways
  • No loose rugs or cords
  • Sturdy handrail at steps
  • Threshold ramp where needed

Bathroom

  • Grab bars by the toilet and in the tub/shower
  • Non-slip mat
  • Raised toilet seat / shower chair if needed
  • Hand-held shower head

Bedroom

  • Lamp and phone within reach of the bed
  • Clear path to the bathroom
  • Bed at a safe height; bed rail if needed
  • Night light

Stairs

  • Handrails on both sides
  • Even, well-lit steps
  • No clutter on stairs

Kitchen & living areas

  • Everyday items within easy reach
  • Sturdy, stable seating with armrests
  • No tripping hazards or loose rugs

General

  • Good lighting throughout
  • Emergency numbers posted
  • Properly fitted footwear / non-slip socks
  • A way to call for help if you fall
